Monday 10 October
- China’s defence ministry rejected allegations by The Center For Civilians in Conflict that Chinese peacekeepers had in July this year abandoned their posts in Juba instead of protecting civilians.
- A top SPLA General, Lt. Gen. Bapiny Mantuil Wichjang, resigned from the Government of South Sudan (GOSS), accusing President Kiir and his inner circles of violating the 2015 peace agreement.

Tuesday 11 October
- A confidential letter from the U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said GOSS undermines the U.N. Security Council’s decision to deploy an additional 4,000 peacekeepers. Russia says their opposition to an arms embargo remains unchanged, despite Ban Ki-moon’s assessment report.
- The SPLA confirmed the defection of 85 Mathiang Anyoor militia soldiers in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
Wednesday 12 October
- Unrest increased throughout the country as GOSS disproved rumours of President Silva Kiir’s death. In response to these rumours GOSS said it would be forced to disconnect social media and other online mainstream media for circulating “false information” on the president’s health status.

Thursday 13 October
- Riek Machar arrived in Pretoria, South Africa, to receive medical treatment.
- Members of the Kenyan parliament are considering a motion to sanction politicians “perpetrating” violence in South Sudan.
- Clashes between SPLA (IO) and government forces reported in several areas within Unity State, including Leer, Thonyor, Ding-ding and Mirnyal area.
Friday 14 October
- According to the SPLA, fighting in South Sudan killed at least 60 people this week.
- Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, reportedly met with Riek Machar and Lam Akol, leader of the rebel National Democratic Movement (NDM), in Khartoum last week.
Saturday 15 October
- The U.S said the military support recently pledged for South Sudan will be directed to the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Monitoring Mechanism (CTSAMM), not the SPLA.
Sunday 16 October
- GOSS is reportedly engaging with foreign powers to find a country where Riek Machar can stay in exile without getting involved in South Sudan’s political activities and affairs. Earlier in the week, President Salva Kiir said Machar should denounce violence and return as a normal citizen or remain in exile during the period of transitional national unity government.
- Government forces reportedly clashed with SPLA (IO) around Malakal town, Upper Nile State. GOSS claim 56 SPLA (IO) soldiers were killed during the clash, but the casualties have not been independently verified.
